Pollock asks Motherwell to be in his band. (still from AbEx Band #1, "Motherwell comes for a visit.")
Synopsis for The AbEx Band (Episodes 1,2,3)
The Abstract Expressionists form a band. Pollock is on lead guitar, Rothko on the upright bass, Motherwell plays the triangle, Newman is on keys, and DeKooning plays Pollock’s empty paint cans as drums. Meanwhile Elaine DeKooning and Lee Krasner play the roles of supportive wives while growing more and more discontent with their lives and may be contemplating starting their own band. The band is wildly unsuccessful, unable to find that one abstract sound that will land them in the history books, but that does not deter Clement Greenberg from being their overbearing manager and groupie.
